This was a list nobody asked for but that I have been thinking about for weeks. I just know there are things I love that I share with people somewhat often and thought, why not share them more widely? It’s also the level of depth I have the capacity for – has anyone else been feeling big shifts internally / collectively? Watching what’s been unfolding on the world stage (aka: atrocities) I’ve been trying to stay grounded by escaping the marine layer 😶🌫️ and finding some pockets of sunshine whenever I can. Countdown to the father daughter roadtrip is on and I’m enjoying the final week at home before Renny and I hit the road for August.
Without further ado, here are some things I love in no particular order…
Place: The Bamfield Wreckage for being the funkiest, most welcoming spot for great food and live music on Bamfield’s west side. It’s also owned and operated by a magical being, my friend Amelia. If you’ve never been to Bamfield, highly recommend. It’s one of those places you want to shout from the rooftops about but then also want to remain unchanged, so I am writing about it here – if you love exploring new places and supporting small businesses in unique communities, then you should go.
Person: Sabrina Smelko for doing my branding AND being my personal trainer among other things – like running her clean personal care brand, Heelr. She’s a creative force who can pump out new ideas, refine design iterations, and bring big visions to life. Or create a program to get you to your fitness goals – I was once a certified personal trainer and I so, so appreciate having someone plan out and tell me what to do. (Thank you, Sabrina!)
Object: Greenroom Body shampoo and conditioner bars, because they’re easy to travel with – I recently brought them on a sailing trip, and my friend immediately wanted to know everything about them – but also cut down on a massive amount of plastic packaging waste. Plus, they are female-founded and based on Vancouver Island. While I don’t know the owner-operator, Dani, very well, I have admired her from afar for her resourcefulness, wealth of knowledge (business + environmental) and the ability to share it in fun and digestible ways.
Entertainment: I have been following this couple on YouTube for years, and their recent adventures have them sailing through the Mariana Islands en route from Japan to Australia. (Sidebar: If you’re into birds, check out this Mariana Fruit Dove, so pretty.) Affectionately referred to as “hot sailing couple” in my house, I like that by following along, I’m supporting real people making fun videos and sharing their alternative way of life online, while getting to see some neat places and also being inspired to do the things we desire – even if they seem scary or we don’t know how to do them yet.

Okay, that’s all from me for today. It’s the height of summer and I hope everyone’s soaking up some sunshine, getting into a body of water if possible, and also resting and not letting the go-go-go energy get the better of you.
Thanks for reading and being interested in the things I think about out loud via my keyboard. Maybe I’ll write something deeper next time, or maybe just another list of things I am grateful for… It’ll be a surprise to all of us. Happy summer and Leo season to all :)
Ciao for now,
Dre
